Bettas are the perfect fish for begginers. They very beaultiful and easy to take care. Usually they live in small aquariums but the also thrive in larger ones. The reason many people think they prefer smaller tanks is the fact that battas tent to have an agressive nature.
A good start point for betta fish tanks are adding a lot of spots for the fish to hide, like plants, rocks and caves. Fish and pet stores usually have a nice range of “litte builds” you can add to the thank. My favourite ones are the spong bob themed. My litte betta loves his pineapple!
If you are getting a new betta, dont be afraid to try a larger tank, just dont forget to add spots where your fish can hide and he will love it. He will have space to swim and nice places to not be bothered whe he wants.
Another good tip for choosing a tank is to research the specifc specie of your fish. Some live better on larger tanks than others.
Now lets talk about the water. Bettas natural environment is actually part of a large bio-diverse ecosystem. People tend to think that they dont need clean or filtered water. They actually like it clean and well oxygenated.
They need an oxygen rich environment, and a filter will provide this. If you choose not to include a filter (which again, we really don’t recommend) make sure you carry out a partial water change around 40% every three days).
A problem you might experience with lots of filters is that they will create a water flow which is too harsh for Bettas. This can easily be fixed by placing a pre-filter or a sponge at the outlet.
With this things in mind, you should be extremely careful when chosing your fish and you tank. Please take good care of your fish and the envoirment he lives in.
